By popular request, Today I bring you a compilation with 15 of the best coastal destinations in Europe, I hope you can visit soon!
We are lucky to have many of the best beach and coast destinations in the world, with great weather in the summer months. And although they are all great, some are more beautiful or special than others. So I don't roll up much more and start listing my favorites:
Index
1. MALLORCA, SPAIN
I have been fortunate to visit the island twice and both times its landscapes, food and people have stolen my heart. Mallorca is a natural paradise with a lot to offer and to which I can't wait to return soon, to step on its beaches, bathe in its turquoise waters and eat well!
The Formentor beach It is one of the best known on the island, it's a long thin beach, white sand, almost stretching 1 kilometer in length and found in a wild landscape of dense pine forests and mountain peaks. Crystal clear water allows swimming and snorkeling, So don't forget your glasses!. The beach has several areas of deckchairs and umbrellas.
The cala Macarella It is one of the most beautiful, horseshoe, it has shallow waters that create an attractive blue hue contrasted with the pine cliffs that surround the bay. It is located about 25 minutes walk from the parking area.
The cala des Moro, located in the southeast of the island, it is a beautiful beach with white sand and waters of a brilliant blue tone. A favorite among locals that tourists have already discovered! The beach is 55 minutes drive from Palma.
One of my favorite coastal destinations in Europe!
2. MENORCA, SPAIN
Another of the best coastal destinations in Europe, near the peninsula, is Menorca. Island famous for its extensive beaches, with sandy dunes several kilometers long and rocky coves washed by turquoise waters. Its coast of 200 km long has some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. So it is the ideal place for sun and beach lovers.
Some of the coves most recommended by locals and island lovers are: Cala Mesquida, Caló Blanc, Cala del Pilar, Cala Turqueta, Cala Macarelleta, Cala Escorxada Y Cala Trebalúger.
3. CIES ISLAND, SPAIN
We continue with destinations in Spain. A multitude of travelers affirm that it is in the Cies Island are the most beautiful beaches in the world and one of the best kept secrets in Spain. Nevertheless, the secret could be open as more visitors head here to sunbathe or walk the small trails along the beach in the surrounding unspoiled nature. The only way to get to the Cíes Islands is by boat from the city of Vigo. Definitely one of the destinations that are on my list of European coast places to go to when I can!
4. SICILY, ITALY
Another classic that could not miss on the list of the best destinations on the coast of Europe. Last year we spent a few days vacation here and we loved it. Its history spans several millennia, and houses impressive fairly well preserved Greek and Roman ruins and gorgeous beaches! Without forgetting the most active volcano in Europe, mount etna. Cefalu, Syracuse, Trapani and Taormina are some of the most charming coastal cities on the main island.
The Beautiful island, O “pearl of the Ionian”, it is a small islet connected to Sicily by a strip of beach. Once it was owned by King Ferdinand III, the island went through a series of private owners before being obtained by the Sicilian Region in 1990, that turned it into a nature reserve. Now, visitors can enjoy the stunning beach, as well as the thriving life of rare birds and lizards found on the island. The nearest airport is Catania, and is an hour's drive from the coast of Taormina.
Note: If you go to Sicily you must try the wine of Mount Etna, brioche with gelato and Arancini balls.
5. AMALFI COAST, ITALY
Amalfi and Positano have long been considered by many two of the best coastal destinations in Europe, and in particular of the amalfi coast. With its multi-colored houses rising from the striking blue Mediterranean to the wooded cliffs. If you are looking for something less picturesque, you can head along the coast towards Erchie, a charming fishing village of just 100 residents, full of olive trees and the famous limoncello of Amalfi. Erchie is alone 50 minutes by car or two hours by public transport from Naples. If you have a week you can visit: Sorrento, Pompeii and Naples (And turn purple on pizza!)
The small and impressive Gavitella beach it is perfectly located in a westerly direction, making it one of the few beaches on the coast that is bathed in sun until sunset. Its waters are crystal clear and the beach has sun loungers and parasols. It is located near the small town of Vettica Maggiore, and between Praiano and Positano.
Fjord of Furore It is a pearl of the coast by UNESCO, and it should be on your must-see list. This beach is actually a small inlet surrounded by unforgiving rocky cliffs, and the beach is sometimes closed for security reasons. Nevertheless, even if it's closed, you can still enjoy the wonderful views from above. The beach itself is narrow and rocky, and its waters of a beautiful blue color. It is possible to arrive by public transport; However, I recommend renting a car if you go several days and want to explore the area better and at your leisure.
All the towns on the Amalfi coast are beautiful and have a lot to offer!
6. SPLIT, CROATIA
Croatia is a country known for being one of the best coastal destinations in Europe. I recommend visiting it better in the summer months, when its waters are crystal clear. Split, It is the second largest city in Croatia, and is famous for its beaches and the fortress-shaped complex in its center. Always boisterous, this lush city has the right balance between tradition and modernity, and it is without a doubt the perfect place to experience what Dalmatian life is really like.
During your visit to Split, I recommend that you enjoy the beaches, but don't forget to explore the old town on foot. I recommend that you enter the Diocletian's Palace (Unesco World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive Roman monuments in the world) and enjoy the dozens of bars, restaurants and shops that thrive amid the ancient city walls.
If you have time left, I also recommend you see the Krka waterfalls, which will be reached in an hour and a half by car from Split.
7. ZAKYNTHOS, GREECE
When we talk about the best coastal destinations in Europe, we can't forget the greek islands. One of its best known beaches is Navagio, also known as “shipwreck beach”. Located on the northwest coasts of Zakynthos, Navagio is a tourist magnet with its relative remoteness, and amazing blue sea in contrast to the perfect white sand. The only way to get to Navagio beach is by boat from Porto Vromi Maries or other nearby ports.. To get to the cliff lookout, the ride is about an hour from the main town of Zakynthos and there is a parking place on the cliff.
8. MILOS, GREECE
Milos is a small Greek volcanic island the Aegean Sea, belonging to the archipelago of Cyclades. In its coasts interesting geological phenomena are shown and there are archaeological remains of the Minoan stages, Hellenistic, roman and byzantine.
During your visit you will not miss unforgettable beaches and coves, delicious fresh seafood and beautiful sunsets; and it is that Milos is really a piece of paradise. It has a port that connects directly to Athens, so it could be the perfect starting point to spend a summer in the Greek islands.
9. FRENCH PROVENCE, FRANCE
The Paloma beach, in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, It is a must if you are a lover of wild beaches. I recommend you take a walk along the promenade, with magnificent views over the Mediterranean, before reaching this beautiful beach nestled in a cove.
Located in the Calanques National Park south of France, we found three beautiful Calanques (or coves): Port Miou, Port Pin and En Vau. The last one is the most beautiful of the three, but also the most difficult to reach. Expect to discover small beaches and coves with sparkling turquoise waters and to be surrounded by impressive cliffs. Marseille is the closest airport to Cassis, about half an hour by car. But the easiest way to get to the three Calanque is by boat. You can book a boat trip from Marseille or Cassis or walk to them following the routes of the national park.
The island of Porquerolles It has been chosen as one of the best coastal areas in Europe for several years, in particular the Notre-Dame beach; which has a postcard landscape of pine trees, turquoise waters and schools of fish. The playa d'Argent It is an excellent alternative if you want to spend an afternoon resting on the beach with the whole family., since the water is very shallow.
10. HARRIS ISLAND, SCOTLAND
More of 800 islands are within reach of Scotland's rugged coastline, but the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides it might be the best when it comes to beaches. A gulf stream makes the Hebrides surprisingly warm, so you can take a walk in mid-summer on the glorious beach of Luskentyre Sands. It is also a great place if you want to surf or start this sport.
11. CAMUSDARACH BEACH, SCOTLAND
The Camusdarach beach it is an arch of gleaming white sand and clear water south of the Morar river estuary.
With a spectacular view of the jagged ridge of Cuillin on the Isle of Skye, the rugged blue peaks of Rum and the rugged Eigg cliff, Camusdarach is awesome. It is an ideal destination for those who like to swim and walk, and run away from the sometimes suffocating heat of northern Europe. From here you will have the opportunity to explore some lovely beaches and bays along the coast., with beautiful views of the small islands (small islands)
Curiosity: Camusdarach is the beach that appears in the film “A cool guy” (Local Hero)
12. ISLE OF SKYE, SCOTLAND
The Isle of Skye is the best known of the Highlands, the most appreciated and fascinating, also known as the Fairy Island for its impressive landscapes and hidden places. Simply known as The island, has served as inspiration for artists and travelers, of relief for sailors and refuge of kings. But it is also home to fairies and giants, from one of Scotland's finest whiskeys and challenging cliffs to the north. This is not your typical beach destination, since its waters are cold and its time quite variable, even during the summer months. However, It is a coastal destination that you should not miss!, and you can always take a quick dip in its waters or enjoy different water activities wearing a wetsuit.
Castles, valleys and cliffs are home to numerous plant and animal species that will connect you with the incredible nature of the island. Some of the must-sees during your visit are: the dunvegan castle, the armadale castle, Kilt Rock, Fairy Glen (the Fairy Valley), Neist Point, Portree, Old man of Storr.
13. ALGARVE, PORTUGAL
The Portuguese coast of the Algarve is known for its beautiful beaches and cliffs.
The Albandeira beach is one of her crown jewels. With crystal clear waters, golden sand and yellow limestone cliffs, this beach is famous for its impressive arch in the water. It is quite popular, so you are probably not the only tourist. Albandeira is alone 50 minutes drive from Faro.
The Marina beach (Marinha beach) it is one of the most famous and emblematic beaches in Portugal, located on the Atlantic coast in the municipality of Lagoa, and considered by the Michelin Guide like one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Europe and one of the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world. It is known for its cliffs, soft sand and calm waters ideal for diving.
The Benagil caves, that give the beach its name, they are some of the most impressive sea caves in all of Europe. Cave Beach offers beautiful summers with crystal clear and refreshing waters. The Benagil caves consist of five magical places, and it's really worth seeing them all. During the summer, The best way to explore these rock formations and white beaches hidden between them is by boat. The ships that make this tour depart from numerous different cities., like Lagos, Alvor and Portimao. The nearest airport is Faro.
14. MOGREN, MONTENEGRO
The beautiful Mogren beach on the Budva Riviera it has sumptuous emerald waters and steep tree-covered cliffs. There are two beaches that are connected by a tunnel in the cliffs. The area is accessible via a coastal path from Budva's old town (some 25 minutes walk). According to local tradition, the beach is named after a Spanish sailor who sank on the beach.
15. GJIPE BECH, ALBANIA
If you are looking for paradise, you found it, and is the gjipe beach. The easiest way to get to this paradisiacal and quiet beach is by boat. The white cliffs, aquamarine waters, white sands and caves create one of the most pristine and underestimated beaches in the world. Ferries depart from Corfu (Greece) and from Brindisi (Italy) towards the seaports of Saranda and Vlorë, at on from Albania. Once in Albania, you must drive to Gjipe, then you will need to walk a few 35 minutes along the coast following a narrow path. Another option could be to take a boat from Jala or Himara directly to the beach in Gjipe., or if you feel adventurous, rent a kayak and paddle from Jala.
Surely the most beautiful beach in Albania, and without a doubt one of the best destinations on the coast of Europe. It is only a matter of time before it becomes popular and becomes crowded.
