itinerary 7 days Maldives.
Hello and welcome to travelers The Travel pamundi! In this post I will share with you my perfect route to pass 7 days in Maldives (or paradise).
no obtante, I would like, before you start talking about Maldives, thank you who are reading me. I hope you to stay here and enjoy your journey planning Maldives as much as I did, and that my posts may serve to help this.
GETTING STARTED WITH SOMEGENERAL INFORMATION ON MALDIVES:
The Republic of Maldives, with a distance of 820 kilometers from north to south and 120 kilometers from east to west, It is located in the Indian Ocean, to southern India. compose more of 2000 islas They organized in 26 large atolls or coral structures separated by gaps. Of these islandsalone 202 They are inhabited and 87 islands are dedicated to holiday tourism.
At the overfly the thousands of islands surrounded by abeautiful turquoise blue color, a chill down my skin. Certainly I recommend trying to get on the plane window because the views are amazing.
A warm and humid climate throughout the year, It makes any month is perfect to enjoy a few days in one of its beautiful islands.
However, depending on the type of trip you're planning to perform there, You know that in the peak months the most popular hotels and hostels sell out quickly, so if you're not flexible stay where I recommend you plan your trip several months in advance. We went off season, a end of August, and although there is more risk of rain and the weather is more changeable, prices are unbeatable!. We were very lucky, as the rains used to be after sunset the sun and did not affect much to our plans, and the temperatures were very nice throughout the week.
If you ask me if the Maldives are really as nice as the pictures seem, I say yes!, and I strongly advise that if you have the opportunity to go visit some of them much earlier!
A curious fact is that despite having so many islands, only 1% of the total area of the Maldives (90.000 square kilometers) It is located above the sea, with an average altitude of 2 meters.
Then I leave the itinerary of 7 days we did Maldives. Quite relaxed as we were somewhat hearted and needed to rest and enjoy.
If you want to read more about Maldives and know why we decided to do this tour and visit these islands, you need to read this other post.
WE STAY 7 DAYS IN MALDIVES AND THIS WAS OURITINERARY:
Day 1: flight from the departure city to Male and Hulhumale night.
In my case I flew from Bangalore, as it was in India, and the flight cost me about 100 euros.
My flight arrived at 4pm to Male, so we did not had time to go straight to the first island we wanted to visit and we had to spend the night in the city. We decided to stay in the Hulhumale, in a hotel opposite the beach. To get there you can take the public bus (shuttle service ST2 via Hulhumale, passing each 30 minutes) at the airport. Shout out to the driver that if you can tell to get off at your stop. This bus costs only 20 Rufiyas (just over one euro) and it takes about 15 minutes to arrive.
It's a nice area to walk along the beach and plenty of local life, However the beach is not "bikini beach". You can not walk or bathe if you do not follow the rules of apparel government. Remember that it is a Muslim country and are quite strict about this.
In my opinion, If you want to squeeze the maximum to the trip and have choice, Gather a flight that arrives very early to Male. Thus the same day could you take the boat to your island destination. and save you spending night in Male (o Hulhumale)
Day 2: boat ride to Ukulhas, first night there.
We got up to have breakfast prontito calmly and take the bus time. We had to find the exact spot from which exited our speedboat to Ukulhas.
This island has only two services a day, one at 10am and another at 4pm. Tickets can buy them directly climbing, but I recommend that once may have booked accommodation Ukulhas escribáis them to confirm that times have not changed boats.
The names of the ships or speedboat that provide shuttle service from Male to Ukulhas are: Coral, Coral Reef and Coral Express. The ride is approximately 1 time, stopping at a couple of islands before reaching Ukulhas. Its price is 50$ Americans per person (I recommend you come with dollars from your destination country and if you need more you bring forth at the airport since no ATMs in all the islands and belive, You do not want to see you in the situation of being in the middle of nowhere with no money in the wallet!).
A Ukulhas the boys reach our accommodation (Coral Reef View) We were waiting to pick us up and take our bags. The accommodation is simple, but thoroughly recommended, as it was very clean, the bedroom was very spacious, Wifi was great and breakfast included in the price was delicious. In addition you leave free use of snorkel equipment if you fancy diving. Best of all we were two literal steps from the beach, and go beach!
Here You can read why we chose as the first destination Ukulhas, as well as more information about traveling to Maldives backpacking without spending a fortune.
Day 3: Lhasa.
We got up very early to seize the day from the beach and snorkeling (We were recommended to go before dawn the sea is calmer and there is no one on the beach, but we stuck a little sheets). We took the opportunity to go walking along the shore across the island, which it is quite tiny but really nice. We saw throughout the island only other 3 tourist couples, so if you seek privacy you have to put on your list Ukulhas!
When we were tired of sun we got some clothes to cover ourselves up as stipulated by the laws of Maldives and went to a tiny beach bar in the center of the island to eat rice with fish of the day for a 5$ per person.
We were very lucky with the time until lunchtime, a little out of the bar where we ate started to get windy, to stir the sea and to pour almost all night. The truth is that not bother us much because we enjoyed in the morning and part of the afternoon on the beach.
Day 4: Ukulhas path to Todhoo, Todhoo night.
Initially our plan was to stay one more day in Ukulhas and make diving, but time was getting very ugly, and although the rain had stopped and was solecito, the sea was very moved. Finally we decided that we wanted to go as soon as possible for fear of remaining isolated in Ukulhas without transport (if there is a lot of wind or sea is moved cancel all tranpsortes) and lose our departure flight from Male.
The boys of our accommodations told us that we would not be able to travel that day because all the boats were canceled, so we went to enjoy more of the beach taking advantage of the truce that the sky was giving.
When we returned to the room we contacted the guys at the hotel for our next island and get to the end they came to pick us up with his speedboat to take us to our next destination (Thodoo) one day before.
We were completely alone on the boat, and although it cost 100$ per person (usually it costs about 30$ per person in normal conditions). It was definitely the best decision because the time Ukulhas Thodoo continued to deteriorate and we expected a lot more sunshine and a beautiful sea. yes, The boat trip we made from Ukulhas to Todhoo lasted more than an hour (They are normal 35 minutes). If you are afraid of the sea or ye mareáis under normal conditions, I do not recommend you do this trip with the sea very moved.
To reach Thoddoo with normal weather conditions have several transportation options:
- The most economic (and we had thought eachother). Take the public ferry that only makes the journey Ukulhas-Thoddoo Thursdays and Sundays (I give information about the schedules without problems in the housing where are you to stay), and it costs only 5$ way per person.
- take a speedboat The motor boat by 35$ way per person.
- Thoddoo travel from Male, There are speedboats from different companies by 50/70$ per person per trip.
To reach Thoddoo the guys we were expecting the hotel again to pick up our bags and join us to check-in. We arrived just in time to get some rest after the adventure, give us a quick shower and go for a walk to see the sunset before dinner.
Thoddoo is an island located 20 km to the northwest of Male, and others 20 km de Rasdhoo. It has dimensions of about 2 km long and 1 km wide. In addition most of the fruit comes from this island atoll, having 1/3 Island dedicated exclusively to agriculture.
In Thoddoo we stayed at the Hotel Relax Residence. We took a very good offer half pension (breakfast and dinner, both cooked at the moment and very good! – glad we had taken half board). The hotel was renewed a couple of years and the room was fine, cleansed, with terrace, fridge, air conditioning and good wifi connection. The hotel is just 10 minute walk from Bikini Beach and let you use bicycles if you want to go to the beach or explore the island it. I also make free use of snorkeling equipment. The hotel staff was 10, We were treated great and outstanding that we were happy at all times, but not pretentious.
The way the hotel to the beach is very nice. Atravesáis all fruit plantations on the island and if you have patience you will see many animals too.
If you want to know why we choose Thoddoo as our main destination in Maldives, as well as more interesting information, You can read this post.
Day 5: Todhoo.
Our fifth day in Maldives, woke up in Thoddoo and we expected a radiant scorching sun. We spent the whole day enjoying the beaches, and exploring the island with bikes from the hotel. We also did some snorkeling and sunset yoga.
does not disappoint Thoddoo!, It is larger than Ukulhas so there's more to explore, and although it has several holiday. So certainly in high season is much more busy, when we went we just had 15 most people on the island.
Note: If you want to do snorkel I recommend you do before dawn. The we did for two days and was one of the best decisions of the trip, as we were alone in the sea and we could swim with huge turtles!. In addition to see how they change the tones of the sky at dawn from the water is priceless! (especially if you are crazy about sunsets and sunrises like me hehe).
Day 6: Todhoo.
We started the day very early again, about the 6 am to go to snorkel. After an hour and a half we dry and we returned to the hotel for breakfast.
We spent the rest of our last day enjoying the beach, relaxing with a good book and watching our last sunset from the beach.
Day 7: Todhoo + trip to Male and Hulhumale night again.
after breakfast, we went to enjoy our last hours of beach, We did a yoga pococ, prepare our backpacks and after check-out, We took the 2pm speedboat back to Male.
Once in the harbor of Male we got back on the bus to Hulhumale (the stop is very close to where you leave speedboats), overnight stop there again.
Day 8: flight back home.
Or in our case early morning flight to Mumbai, to continue our adventure in India.
